Privacy Policy
Effective date: 18 May 2026
Spot the Answer is a real-time multiplayer quiz and party game for iOS and Android, provided by SmithScript. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how to contact us about your data. It is intended to be practical and transparent, not legal advice.
Information we collect
- Account and authentication data: information needed to create and manage your account, such as your sign-in identifier, app user ID, username, session details, and authentication status. Authentication is handled using Better Auth.
- Profile data: your display name, avatar/profile image if you choose one, cosmetics, preferences, and notification settings.
- Multiplayer and gameplay data: game rooms, join codes, QR joins, quiz answers, scores, rewards, leaderboards, stats, friends, game history, and real-time game state. This data is stored and processed using Convex so the app can run live multiplayer sessions.
- Friends and social features: friend relationships, invites, player visibility in rooms, reports, and moderation information where needed.
- Purchases and entitlements: purchase status, product identifiers, premium quiz theme bundles, All Access entitlements, restore status, and related entitlement metadata. Payments are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. Entitlement management is handled by RevenueCat.
- Device, crash, and error information: app version, platform, operating system version, device type, crash logs, errors, and diagnostics. We use Sentry for analytics, crash reporting, and error investigation.
- Support messages: information you send us by email, including your email address, issue description, screenshots, app version, username, and device details if provided.
How information is used
- To create accounts, keep users signed in, and secure access to the app.
- To run real-time quiz games, game rooms, QR/code joining, scoring, rewards, stats, friends, leaderboards, and multiplayer features.
- To manage profiles, avatars, cosmetics, preferences, and notifications.
- To provide premium quiz theme bundles, All Access, purchase restore, and entitlement checks.
- To send optional push notifications for friend, game, reward, leaderboard, and app updates if you allow notifications.
- To investigate bugs, crashes, abuse, cheating, inappropriate profile content, purchase issues, and support requests.
- To keep the service reliable, secure, and fair.
Authentication and account data
Spot the Answer uses account creation/sign-in. Account data is required so your profile, friends, stats, purchases, and game progress can be linked to you across sessions and devices. Better Auth is used for authentication and session handling.
Multiplayer, friends, and gameplay data
Because Spot the Answer is a real-time multiplayer game, we store game state and player activity needed to make rooms, codes, QR joining, answers, scoring, stats, friends, rewards, and leaderboards work. Other players in the same game session may see your username, avatar, score, answers where the game mode requires it, and gameplay status.
Purchases and entitlements
Premium purchases may include quiz theme bundles and All Access. Payments are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play, not directly by SmithScript. RevenueCat helps us check, restore, and manage purchase entitlements. Host-owned premium themes may be playable by guests in that game session, but this does not transfer ownership of the premium content.
Camera, photo, and notification permissions
- Camera: used to scan QR codes for joining games. We do not use the camera unless you choose a feature that needs it.
- Photo library or image picker: may be used if you choose a profile/avatar image from your device.
- Push notifications: may be used for friend, game, reward, leaderboard, and app updates. You can disable notifications in your device settings.
Crash and error reporting
We use Sentry to understand crashes, errors, and app reliability. Sentry may receive diagnostic information such as device type, operating system, app version, error details, timestamps, and related technical context. This helps us fix issues and improve the app.
Data sharing with service providers
We do not sell personal data. We share information with service providers only where needed to operate and support the app, including Convex for backend data storage and real-time game state, Better Auth for authentication, RevenueCat for purchase entitlement management, Sentry for crash/error reporting and analytics, Apple and Google for app distribution and in-app purchases, and email providers for support.
Data retention
Account, profile, friends, purchases/entitlements, stats, and gameplay records are kept while your account is active or as needed to provide the app. Support emails are kept as long as reasonably needed to handle your request. Crash/error data is kept for a limited period by Sentry according to its retention settings. Some records may be retained where required for legal, accounting, fraud-prevention, abuse-prevention, or platform compliance reasons.

- You can update profile details in the app where those controls are available.
- You can disable camera, photo, and notification permissions in your device settings.
